Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need counseling?

Some people choose to seek counseling after specific life events occur (such as a death in the family, job loss, divorce, etc.). Others may notice that they have been having difficulty managing their emotions, they may be feeling more anxious than usual or may have difficulty controlling anger. Counseling can be beneficial for all types of people, from those struggling with intense issues like grief and loss to those who are generally feeling pretty good but would like to make some changes in their lives.

What types of counseling do you offer?

We offer services for adults, children (ages 3+), adolescents, and couples. We also offer groups on specific topics throughout the year. Please visit our Services page for more information.

How long does counseling take?

Each session typically lasts 45-50 minutes. Sessions may occur on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis. During your initial session your counselor will work with you to establish goals for treatment, which will be evaluated on a regular basis and will help to determine the length of treatment.

Will what I share be kept private?

All conversations with your counselor are kept completely confidential, except in instances where disclosure is required by law, as in cases of child abuse and neglect, danger to self or others, and elder abuse.

Will my insurance company or healthcare reimbursement plan pay for counseling?

NovaVita Counseling is in the process of contracting with major insurance plans. At this time, however we are only in-network with select companies. Please visit our New Clients page for a list of accepted plans. We do not bill any other insurance plans on behalf of the client. Please contact your insurance company directly to find out if they will reimburse you for your sessions. At your request, you will be provided with a receipt for all sessions that can be submitted to your insurance company. Many healthcare reimbursement plans will also reimburse for counseling sessions.

What forms of payment are accepted?

Cash, check, and credit cards are all accepted forms of payment. All returned checks will be assessed a $25 NSF fee.

What is the cost for counseling sessions?

We work on a sliding scale based on annual household income. During your initial conversation with your counselor they will work with you to determine the session rate.

What if I have to cancel my appointment?

There is no charge for sessions cancelled within 24 hours. Late cancellations or no shows for sessions will be charged the regular session rate, which will need to be paid prior to the next scheduled session.
